Your support makes all the difference.The Libertines have announced plans for a European tour this autumn, ahead of their British Summer Time headline gig at London’s Hyde Park next month.
Pete Doherty, Carl Barat and the band are reuniting for a string of shows in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Tickets for the September and October dates (see below) will go on sale on Friday at 9am.
The “Can’t Stand Me Now” group will also play a warm-up gig at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom on 29 June. They will headline Optimus Alive Festival in Portugal on 12 July and Benicassim Festival in Spain on 19 July.
“We were talking about doing some new songs,” Doherty told NME. “Or even better, finishing some old songs that we always knew should have been on Up the Bracket if we could have been arsed. I could hum them and Carl would know about them.”
Barat, however, seems less optimistic about The Libertines’ much-hyped resurrection. Doherty’s right-hand man has warned fans that they could well put on “the most boring show anyone’s ever seen”.
“We could get bottled off,” he said. “Or it could be breathtaking and everyone could lose their minds and their control.”
The Libertines last performed as a group at Reading and Leeds Festival in 2010.
