Your support makes all the difference.Fans of The 1975 are having a rough day. Not only have the band posted a cryptic comic book strip that subtly hints at a break up but they’ve completely abandoned social media.
Front man Matthew Healy had posted the comic strip on Twitter and Instagram 24 hours before the social media wipe-out, the strip only remaining on band manager Jamie Oborne's Twitter.
It reads “We’ve killed rockstars – just another casualty in the war against art – butchered by our postmodern reflective propensities… The hardest part of any relationship is to say goodbye… As much as we might like to stay the same, change is an inevitable part of life… So we must leave, with a parting ‘we love you’ – we are already gone”.
Elsewhere on the strip, two women have a conversion where one asks “Did you hear about The 1975?” to which the answer is “Yeah, I’m shook up man! I wanted that to last forever!” There is also a subtle pop at the NME which is titled Nihilistic Music Expression on the strip – most likely a reference to the band ‘winning’ the magazines “Worst Band” award in 2014.
Twitter has, of course, gone crazy, with one Tweet reading “listening to the 1975 to calm me down from the stress that the 1975 is giving me”, while another read “The 1975 can't be over yet I'm still pulling myself together from the Jonas Brothers' break up”
Many have made reference to the fact One Direction’s Zayn Malik left his band earlier this year, with one Tweeter Tweeting “I think Naughty Boy is holding the 1975 hostage and Zayn was warning us”
