From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine (real name Daniel Hernandez) has released his new album Dummy Boy following numerous delays.
The artist currently remains in custody after pleading not guilty to racketeering and possession of firearms – charges that could result in Hernandez facing a minimum of 32 years in prison.
Prosecutors previously claimed there was evidence that the 22-year-old directed or participated in multiple acts of violence as part of a gang. Following a hearing earlier this month, Hernandez was denied bail after being deemed a likely danger to the community
Dummy Boy’s release was announced by the rapper’s friend DJ Akademiks and features multiple famous artists, including Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Murda Beetz.
Akademiks wrote on Twitter: “This is the decision of Tekashi himself who despite being disappointed about its leak & his current situation wants his fans to enjoy his music.”
Hernandez, West and Minaj were due to film a music video for the track “MAMA” earlier this year, but the shoot was disrupted after gunshots were fired on set.
The album was initially scheduled for release on the 23 November but was postponed following Hernandez’s arrest on the 21 November.
He reportedly remains in custody in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, and will remain so until a hearing on the 4 September 2019 unless a bail appeal is successful.
