Nugent, who has technically been eligible since 2000, has been a vocal critic of the establishment for years. His latest outburst involved him branding it "the most outrageous and disgusting lie" that he had never been nominated.
He asked to "find a human being... and believe them when they say Ted Nugent should not be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? I would love to witness that exchange. You would see a person almost melt with guilt because you know they are lying."
Crosby, who was inducted as a member of the Byrds and also for his work with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, seemed highly amused by Nugent's rant and tweeted in response: "That is really funny stuff... he's not good enough and he never will be... a hack player and no singer at all... could not write a decent song if his life depended on it."
Nugent responded with a Facebook post which claimed: "David clearly is correct for every music lover in the world knows the Michigan rockers don't know anything about music when they named Ted Nugent the number one guitarist ever in Michigan. Poor David. Proof that substance abuse is not a victimless crime."
Crosby has called out Nugent before, in April 2017. Sharing a picture of Nugent with Donald Trump, he wrote: "This picture says it all... the two most insincere smiles in history. What a pair of assholes."
In response, Nugent called him "kind of a lost soul, and he's done so much substance abuse throughout his life that his logic metre is gone... I feel quite sad for the guy."
In August of the same year, Crosby reacted after Nugent blamed his lack of a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction on political correctness.
Crosby responded: "No, the asshole just isn't good enough." Nugent then called him a "bloated chemical repository carcass" who "desperately seeks hygeine."
