From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Taylor Swift has finally revealed the release date of her new album – also teasing out a new single coming on Friday.

The singer made both announcements in an Instagram Live video on Thursday.

Her next album, titled Lover, will come out on 23 August.

In the meantime, fans can expect her new tune, titled “You Need To Calm Down”, to be released on Friday, 14 June at midnight ET, meaning 5am in the UK.

Lover, which is Swift’s seventh album, will feature 18 tracks.

The singer’s most recent album, Reputation, came out in November 2017.

She previously released the single Me! with Panic! at the Disco‘s Brendon Urie, in April this year.

Swift shared a photo of the cover art for Lover on Thursday.

The singer had announced on 12 June that she would be going live on Instagram the following day to update her fans on “some stuff”.
