Taylor Swift fans think they may have unearthed a dig at music manager Scooter Braun, the owner of her former label.

The pair have feuded since Braun bought Big Machine Records, which included the masters for Swift’s first six albums.

Swift accused Braun of bullying her during her career and said that she had attempted to buy her masters back, but was not satisfied with the deal she was offered.

Swift is now working on re-recording all of her first six albums, including her Grammy-winning second album, Fearless, and 1989, the album which made her the first female solo artist to win Album of the Year twice.

She offered fans a first glimpse at a re-recorded song this week, after her hit single “Love Story” appeared in an advert created by her friend, Ryan Reynolds, for dating service Match.

In the video, Satan is shown matching with a date, called 2020. Both are from hell, and proceed to spend time together in a deserted New York, taking part in activities such as stealing toilet paper and exercising in a deserted gym.

During the advert, fans noticed that a fallen scooter is seen against a dumpster as Satan and 2020 take a selfie.

Their theory is that Swift managed to get a dig at Braun into the advert, as she previously did in her music video for “The Man”. 

There, a sign saying that Scooters were banned was shown in a subway station.

In a statement posted last month, Swift said she had been “actively trying to regain ownership” of her masters in 2020 and had tried to enter talks with Braun.

She claimed that Braun's legal team wanted her to sign a non-disclosure agreement stating: “I would never say another word about Scooter Braun unless it was positive”.

She confirmed that Braun had sold the rights to her masters to an investment fund for a reported $300m, pointing out that it was “the second time my music has been sold without my knowledge”.

Sharing the Match advert on Twitter, Swift informed fans that she will continue to work on re-recordings of her albums.

It was recently revealed that her critically acclaimed 2020 album, Folklore, is nominated for Album of the Year at the 63rd Grammy Awards. 

She is also nominated for Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (for “Exile” with Bon Iver).

The 2021 Grammys take place on 31 January 2021.
