From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Frontman Richard Fairbrass said that the pop star's team sent him flowers after they gave permission for the 1991 song to be used.
Details about how their song would feature on the Swift track were kept under wraps to avoid leaks.
“It was firmed up about a week or two ago, but we were told to be bloody quiet about it because they wanted to make sure there was no leakage in the meantime," he told NME.
"She and all the people that work with her have been incredibly friendly. I’ve got a huge bunch of flowers here from them in the house. It’s been a rewarding experience, and very flattering."
Asked how he would feel if he were the subject of "LWYMMD" he added: “I think it would be a mixture of flattery that you’re mentioned, but anger that it’s in a negative way. My guess is I’d feel piqued but happy that I haven’t been forgotten!”
Swift released the new single at midnight on 25 August. The track ends with a voice message of Swift saying, “I'm sorry, but the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead.”
Some felt the song was a diss toward Kanye West, whom Swift has had issues with in the past, and whose "tilted stage" is believed to be what Swift is referencing in the lyrics.
The song is the first single from her sixth album reputation, set to be released on 10 November.
The album is the follow-up to 2014's 1989 which featured several hits including “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood". It won three Grammys, including Album of the Year.
