From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The singer made her position known on social media on Wednesday, pointing to a recent interview she gave to V Magazine.
“I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election,” Swift told the publication.
“Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.”
“The artist also said the change “we need most is to elect a president who recognises that people of colour deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included”.
“Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first,” she added.
“The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.”
Swift made her announcement ahead of the vice-presidential debate between Harris and Mike Pence, also sharing a photo of herself holding a plate of “Biden-Harris 2020” cookies.
The singer first made her political views public in October 2018, when she endorsed two Democratic candidates in Tennesse’s midterm elections.
Her decision to speak out is chronicled in the documentary Miss Americana, released in January on Netflix.
