Your support makes all the difference.The Libertines have been confirmed as headliners for Scottish festival T in the Park, with the rest of the line-up still to be announced.
Pete Doherty and Carl Barat’s indie band will take to the stage at the event’s new Strathallan Castle home in July after reuniting for a string of gigs last year, including a show at London’s Hyde Park.
“We’re making a record and coming up to test it out on Scotland,” Doherty said. “We’ll see how it goes but it’ll be the Yes or No vote all over again, really. It’s going to be f**king mental and I just cannae wait, as you lot say.”
The Libertines last played T in the Park in 2004, shortly before their split.
Geoff Ellis, festival director, described them as “a truly iconic British band, revered as cult heroes by a generation of music fans and adored by the Scottish crowd”.
“They chose Scotland as the destination for their live return on home soil last June and raised the roof of the Barrowlands with two exhilarating shows,” he said.
“It’s going to be a very special year for T in the Park and we can’t wait to welcome you all to Strathallan.”
Earlier this week, Barat returned from visiting Doherty at rehab in Thailand, where the duo had been writing new songs.
Doherty has confirmed that the first Libertines album in 11 years will be recorded at Karma Studios in Thailand after the group signed a record deal with Virgin/EMI in the country.
Tickets for T in the Park go on sale on 27 February at 9am, with the festival running from 10-12 July.
