From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Last night, World Cup fever was unavoidable. Across England, every sports-fan was glued to a television screen/pub projector, watching the match with Colombia unfold.

While Harry Kane’s first goal was thought to have been enough, a surprise 92nd minute goal from the opposition meant the match went into extra time – and then into dreaded penalties. The tension was palpable.

Even those away from England were gripped by the game, including Stormzy. Despite being on stage, performing for an Ibiza crowd, the grime artist halted proceedings to watch the football.

What could have been another disastrous, mood-killing moment (had England lost), turned into a eutrophic celebration for everyone in attendance. Marching around the stage following the final penalty (scored by Eric Dier), Stormzy charged around the stage before blasting into the appropriately titled hit ”Big For Your Boots.” Watch the chaos ensue below.

Stormzy was headlining #Merky festival, which also saw Krept & Konan, Mabel, and Avelino perform at the event.

Meanwhile, England are through to the quarter-finals, next playing Sweden and hopefully getting one step closer to bringing football home.
