Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spotify has revealed its biggest British artists of 2020 ahead of Spotify Wrapped arriving.

The annual Spotify event allows users to generate shareable lists and playlists showing their most listened to artists and songs of the year, revealing information about both personal listening habits and the wider music environment.

In what has been a big year for British talent, Ed Sheeran is still reigning supreme as the most streamed British artist by UK listeners.

This feat is made all the more impressive given that the singer did not release any singles or an album in 2020.

In second place is rapper Stormzy, who released his second studio album Heavy is the Head at the end of 2019.

Dua Lipa is the most listened to British female artist by Spotify users in the UK; with her critically acclaimed album Future Nostalgia being released in March, she’s also the only artist on the list to have put out an album in 2020.

She’s followed by Lewis Capaldi and Harry Styles.

When they’re not listening to British artists, UK listeners are enjoying global R&B and rap performers, with Drake the number one artist in the UK.

The late rapper Juice WRLD is the second most streamed international artist by UK listeners following his death last December. He is followed by Eminem and The Weekend.
