Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Spotify has introduced a feature that curates a playlist of your favourite throwback hits.

Time Capsule is available for anyone over 16 with a Spotify account in most countries. So if you think 2017 has been a bad year for music you can comfort yourself with some Lauryn Hill, Blink 182 or a bit of OutKast.

The Independent office has been having a lot of fun delving into songs we'd almost forgotten.

Feedback on the playlist's accuracy has ranged from "creepily spot on" to "not bad", "a reminder that I was super lame" to "HOW DOES IT KNOW SO MUCH?".

Spotify's description reads: "We made you a personalised playlist with songs to take you back in time to your teenage years.

"Bring on the memories with 2 hours of iconic throwback tracks - all picked just for you."

Here are a few examples of our Time Capsule playlists:

One colleague said he was impressed that one particular song seemed to have been plucked from a current playlist of 50 tracks and added to the Time Capsule; Spotify is using an algorithm to determine which songs you will have heard way back when.

Another said that around 15-25 per cent of the songs featured on his Time Capsule playlist didn't appear on any he had curated himself - so Spotify had correctly worked out based on information from his profile.

Take it for a spin and let us know what you think - I'm off to listen to "Hey Ya!" for the 100th time. If you're not feeling the nostalgia then subscribe to our new music playlist instead:
