From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. British singer Morrissey was discharged from hospital on Sunday, a day after collapsing on stage with breathing problems, the hospital treating him said.

The 50-year-old former frontman of 1980s pop band The Smiths had fallen ill just one song into his concert Saturday at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, southwest England.

"Morrissey became unwell, and he was admitted overnight as a precautionary measure. He's been seen by the medical team, much improved and now discharged home," a hospital spokeswoman said.

The Mancunian singer's knees buckled and he slumped to the floor as he came to the end of opening song "This Charming Man", The Smiths' 1983 breakthrough hit, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported. He was then dragged offstage.

Morrissey has been touring North America and Europe since releasing his ninth solo album, "Years of Refusal", in February.

He has cancelled several concerts during the tour, including dates in Florida, North Carolina, California, Britain and France.
