From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Robbie Williams has announced a new tour just days after live tweeting the birth of his second child.

The former Take That star's social media onslaught seemed bizarre at the time, but perhaps it was not so inexplicable after all.

Williams sparked a Twitter storm by posting a series of pictures and videos of his wife Ayda Field's labour, before their son Charlton Valentine was born on Monday afternoon.

But now, the promotional motive behind his odd overshare with two million followers has been revealed.

Shortly after Charlton's birth, Williams told fans to "keep [their] eyes peeled on Thursday" while wearing his iconic "Let Me Entertain You" face paint from 1998.

This morning, as promised, he tweeted: "Hell is gone and heaven's here, I'm coming out on tour next year."

The "Angels" singer, 40, will return to the stage in spring 2015 for his Let Me Entertain You tour. He posted a video of himself running around in full dress-up, re-creating the hit song with new tour-themed words.

Williams will "entertain" new countries on the tour, set to open in Madrid on 25 March.

Countries included on the current list of dates are Spain, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

Tickets for all venues go on sale on 7 November, bar the Spanish dates which will be available to purchase from 6 November.
