Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Reunited indie guitar act Suede are to be honoured for their musical "inspiration" at the Q Awards next week, it was announced today.

The band - fronted by Brett Anderson - will collect the award at the annual bash at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Monday.

Another honorary award will go to Crowded House founder and solo star Neil Finn, who will collect the Q Classic Songwriter Award.

Finn began his musical career more than 35 years ago, first finding fame when he joined his brother Tim's band Split Enz in his native New Zealand in the 1970s.

He went on to form Crowded House, whose hits have included Don't Dream It's Over, Weather With You and Private Universe. After splitting in the late 90s, he went on to release solo work and collaborations with Tim before reforming the band.

He said of the award: "I have always been besotted by music even as a boy. My method in trying to fashion the perfect song is a roundabout pathway, and how it works is no clearer to me now than back in the day."

Suede, famed for chart hits such as Trash, Animal Nitrate and Stay Together, will be handed the Q Inspiration title at the respected music bash.

The group recovered from the early departure of guitarist Bernard Butler to find even greater success. They split in 2002 but reformed earlier this year and release a greatest hits album next month.

The event, officially called the Q Awards 2010 with Russian Standard Vodka, will also see a number of other acts battle it out for prizes.

Arcade Fire, Green Day, Kasabian, Kings Of Leon and Muse are up for the accolade of best act in the world.
