Since scoring a Christmas Number One back in 2009 and the following gigs in 2011, Rage Against The Machine has stayed particularly quiet.
On occasion, various band members have hinted at new material, while their celebratory Finsbury Park gig was released on DVD last year.
Marking almost four years since their last live date, a new website titled Prophets of Rage has launched - a website that is currently down due to huge numbers of traffic but should show a countdown along with the hashtag #TakeThePowerBack.
Posters have also started popping up in Los Angeles, featuring a black, red and white symbol showing people raising their fists alongside the website’s address.
The hashtag refers to the band’s song of the same name from their debut LP while ‘Prophets of Rage’ could very well refer to the Public Enemy song of the same name.
Some fans believe the big reveal could be a joint tour between the two bands, optimists among them are hoping RATM announce a new album along with supporting tour.
Public Enemy released their thirteenth studio album last year, titled Man Plans God Laughs. In 2013, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, Rage Against the Machine made headlines last year after bassist Tim Commerford apologised for inspiring Limp Bizkit, saying at the time: “I do apologise for Limp Bizkit. I really do. I feel really bad that we inspired such bullshit.
“They’re gone, though. That’s the beautiful thing. There’s only one [rap metal band] left, and that’s Rage, and as far as I’m concerned, we’re the only one that matters."
