Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Rather than dropping a new track with every second bowel movement like many other rappers right now, Rae Sremmurd have mostly kept quiet since SremmLife, easily the most fun record of 2015.
Aside from the odd guest verse, Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy have been beavering away on a follow-up album with returning producer Mike WiLL Made It, and now it looks like it’s about ready to drop.
“Warning not for the soft #Sremmlife2 dropping soon,” Swae Lee wrote on Twitter last night, alongside a video of the duo performing new material at a show.
He also made reference to it during a 20-minute freestyle on Tim Westwood’s show (take "dropping soon" with a vat of salt though, in hip-hop that can mean up to about 15 months).
The first SremmLife was incredibly well-received - hell, even Kendrick liked it, previously tweeting: “Unlock duh Shwag, Shwaa Unlock.”
“That's crazy bro,” Swae said of the tweet. “That's like a big moment in history right there for us.”
It’s good to hear Mike WiLL Made It is back on board for the new album, he had this to say about it back in August: “Every song on Sremmlife is a HIT. Still sounding fresh af. Great start. SremmLife 2 in the works.”
SremmLife mostly featured only bars from Rae Sremm themselves - bar input from Nicki Minaj and Big Sean - though there’s no word yet on who, if anyone, will be collabing for the follow-up.
