Musical genius and renowned luddite Prince has criticised the current state of mainstream music, saying there is no pop that makes you feel "scared" anymore.
“I’m not interested in what happened yesterday,” he told the New York Post when they brought up how his music is still inspiring acts like The Weeknd, Miguel and Tame Impala.
“There might be music that sounds like me, but what good is that? You’re essentially in the feedback loop.
“It’s a bad time for music in general. There’s not a lot of pop music in the mainstream that makes you feel scared, that makes you wonder what’s happening.”
He didn’t want to crush youth’s creativity though.
“I'm not the kind of person who's down on young people in music," he added. "Joshua [Welton] is one of the new generation who can do multiple things.
"Janelle Monáe is making her own music industry with her music and her label [Wondaland]. She's not afraid of anybody. One day, she's gonna be president and no one's gonna even know what happened!”
Prince, who previously declared “the internet is over” and pulled his music from Spotify, will release his new album HitnRun exclusively through Tidal on 7 September.
