From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Pete Doherty has said that the “incredible backlash” to Brexit will “be the best thing in the world for music”.
Speaking to Channel 4, he added: “You’ll see, you’ll get the most insane new wave of the most incredible [acts]. You see the difference between writing a poem in prison and writing a poem in a cottage by a lake, you know.”
The Libertines frontman, who has now returned with new band The Puta Madres, described the “horrible, creeping” feeling that Brexit had given him.
He added: “I can feel like in Watership Down when the fields start to turn black, because of all the propaganda that we’re getting fed about Brexit.”
“I don’t believe that this great British nation is capable of doing that to itself. And destroying my band in the process, because I’m the only British passport holder in the band.”
Alongside Doherty, The Puta Madres consists of Jack Jones, Katia De Vidas, Miki Beavis, Miggles, and Rafa.
The band’s self-titled first album, Peter Doherty and The Puta Madres, will be released on 26th April.
