From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Good news One Direction fans – the boys have announced that they will be touring the UK and Ireland next year.

Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne will be heading to British shores for a string of dates between June and October.

The hugely successful boyband, who formed on 2010s’ The X Factor, will play shows in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Dublin, Belfast, Newcastle and Sheffield in support of their new album Four.

The On The Road Again tour will feature songs from One Direction’s four chart-topping albums, including “Kiss You”, “Steal My Girl” and latest single “Night Changes”. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday 6 December at 9am.

One Direction made US chart history last week by becoming the first group to see their first four studio albums debut at number one on the Billboard chart.

The five piece sold 387,000 copies of Four in its first week of sale, coming second only to Taylor Swift’s 1989 for the largest debut of the year so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Their latest record sees them surpass their own last year, when they became the first band to have three albums debut at the top spot with bestseller Midnight Memories.
