One Direction star Zayn Malik has become engaged to his Little Mix singer girlfriend Perrie Edwards.

Malik, 20, popped the question two years after they met backstage while contestants at ITV's The X Factor.

Edwards, who is also 20, was spotted wearing an engagement ring when she attended the premiere of the One Direction movie This Is Us in London's Leicester Square last night.

A spokesman confirmed today: "Zayn and Perrie are engaged, but any further detail regarding their relationship is private."

It is thought the couple became engaged over the weekend. The news will break the hearts of thousands of fans of the boy band, many of whom made a pilgrimage to Leicester Square last night to catch a glimpse of the group.

Malik has worn his heart on his sleeve by having a cartoon version of his fiancee tattooed on his right bicep. In an interview this week had admitted: "She was a bit shocked at first but loves it now."
