The acclaimed director, who worked with the band on One Direction documentary This Is Us, said he thought the group would stay together for a “little while longer” before Harry Styles becomes the next member to leave.
“I think they’ll stay together for a little bit longer and at some point Harry will probably leave, he’ll probably be next,” he told TMZ.
Asked if he agreed Styles was the stand-out member of the group, Spurlock said he actually thought Zayn Malik was the most talented of the five boys after filming the boy band for six months in 2013.
The Super Size Me director said fans “couldn’t fault” Zayn for wanting to leave the band to pursue a solo career.
“I think Zayn is probably the most talented guy in that group, he’s an incredible singer… To make the decision to want to leave and go off on your own and chase a solo career in the midst of being as famous as you are – you can’t fault somebody for that,” he said.
His comments come after news that Louis Tomlinson has plans to launch his own record label and has already signed two acts.
The singer’s first signing will be X Factor finalist Jack Walton, followed by a new girl band he’s currently holding auditions for.
Malik left One Direction last month, saying he wanted to “be a normal 22-year-old”.
He has since unveiled track “I Won’t Mind”, his first solo material in collaboration with London-based DJ and producer Naughty Boy.
