Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Now That’s What I Call Music! has released its 100th edition, 35 years after the 1st CD came out.

Since 1983, three compilations have been released each year, anthologising the biggest hits in the UK that year.

According to the BBC, the average UK household boasts four Now albums, and the series has remained successful through a number of changes in how we consume music - from vinyl, cassette, CDs, Mini-Disc and digital downloads to streaming. The albums have sold more than 120m copies across 60 countries.

The series began on vinyl in 1983, starring songs such as Culture Club’s "Karma Chameleon" and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

The 100th edition follows the traditional double disc format, but disc two will be made up of 21 “classic hits”, charting how pop music has evolved over 35 years. It includes classics such as UB40's "Red Red Wine" and also a more recent "classic" - Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself". You've also got favourites such as "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls and Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer".
