From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Noel Gallagher has confirmed what we all pretty much suspected, that the inclusion of an Oasis cover in John Lewis’ latest Christmas advert had more to do with money than his appreciation of the department store/advert.

Aurora’s cover of the track ‘Half The World Away’ incensed some Oasis fans, was described by their former manager as “rubbish” and led to Noel’s brother Liam allegedly describing him as a “sell out”.

“It will forever be synonymous with Christmas from now on and, as is well known, it's not my favourite time of year," Noel told Jo Whiley on her BBC Radio 2 show.

"Having said that, at least it comes with a cheque, which, believe me, is highly worthwhile."

He added: "Don't go buying me John Lewis vouchers for Christmas, trying to be a smart arse, inside a card that says 'Noel'".

Noel had recently been bemoaning the lack of rock ’n roll attitude in music right now, a grievance he clearly put to one side for the corporate sync of the song.

“I think it’s rubbish, I think it’s rubbish," former Oasis manager Alan McGee told Gigwise of Aurora’s version.

"I don’t know what anybody else thinks of it though. I’m pleased for Noel that he got his royalties, I hope they gave him a million quid but I thought actually it was rubbish."
