From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On February 16, experimental rock band Yeasayer holds its place as the most blogged musical act of the moment, according to The Hype Machine. The band's just-released CD Odd Blood is being called a breakthrough album throughout the blogosphere and in the mainstream music media. Other top acts are Swedish indie pop band The Radio Dept. and Vancouver garage-rock/noise-pop band Japandroids.

Toro Y Moi is the moniker for 23-year-old recording artist Chazwick Bundick, from South Carolina, USA, who plays a synthesizer-heavy style of music coined "chillwave." Toro Y Moi is set to released an LP titled Causers of This on February 23, and bloggers are sharing tracks from that album. I'm Waking Up To... (wakingupto.wordpress.com) says, "Bundick creates distorted lo-fi pop music that warmly floats between your ears like something beautiful you'd stumble across while sifting through static radio waves."

Bon Iver, a band formed by American indie folk singer/songwriter Justin Vernon, has also climed into the top ten. The band's 2008 album For Emma, Forever Ago was widely praised among mainstream media outlets, and the group was ranked number 8 on Last.fm's most listened to new music of 2008. Bon Iver can thank its current popularity in the blogosphere to the release of remixes of its songs by Starkey and Tomas Barford.
