From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On February 17, Brooklyn rock band Yeasayer continues to be the talk of the blogosphere following the release of its breakthrough album Odd Blood. Swedish indie pop band The Radio Dept. and Vancouver garage-rock/noise-pop group Japandroids are the second and third most popular acts in the music blogs, according to The Hype Machine.

Getting significant mention in the blogosphere is Local Natives, a Los Angeles indie band that began attracting attention from the music press after performing nine shows at the 2009 South by Southwest Festival. The band released its debut album, Gorilla Manor, in 2009 in the UK, and is now in the blogs after releasing the album internationally. Indie Rock Café calls Local Natives (www.indierockcafe.com) "a band to watch in 2010."

Pattern is Movement is a Philadelphia rock band, formed in 2001, sometimes called a "math rock" group for its rhythmically complex experimental style. The band is working on a follow-up to its debut album All Together and offered up a track as a free download. The Needle Drop (theneedledrop.blogspot.com) says the single, "Light of the World," "reinforces everything we've come to expect from their music: whimsical pop melodies floating over a myriad of math rock drums."
