Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On February 5, Brooklyn experimental rock band Yeasayer continues to be the most blogged musical act of the moment, according to The Hype Machine. In second and third are French alternative rock band Phoenix and Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House, which recently recorded new versions of songs from its new album Teen Dream.

Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand of Beach House visited the Horseshack recording studio in Illinois, USA, to record semi-live versions of songs from their studio album Teen Dream, which was released January 26. Those tracks were posted on the recording studio's website, Daytrotter (daytrotter.com), on February 1, and are now being passed around the blogosphere.

Also in the blogs Friday is San Diego ambient post-rock project The Album Leaf, which was formed in 1998 by guitarist and electronic musician Jimmy LaValle. The band released its fifth studio album, A Chorus of Storytellers, on February 2. Knox Road (www.knoxroad.com) says, " A Chorus Of Storytellers takes us in, allows us to breathe, and drops us off at the end with a new outlook on the world." Citizen Dick (www.citizendick.com) reviews, "This may be The Album Leaf's most mature and dynamic effort yet."
