Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. On February 22, California indie pop band The Morning Benders is the most blogged act of the moment, following the release of its single "Excuses" as a free download. In second and third place, according to The Hype Machine, are Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene and Los Angeles indie band Local Natives.
Broken Social Scene is a Toronto-based experimental group that consists of anywhere from six to 19 members, many of whom also have other ongoing bands and solo projects. The group's fifth album, Forgiveness Rock Record, is due out in May, and the its top status in the blogs follows the release of the first song off that album. In one of many positive reviews of the seven-minute track - called "World Sick" - Sheena Beaston (sheenabeaston.typepad.com) calls it "a total journey of radness."
Also climbing into a top spot is Field Music, a British band whose core members are brothers David and Peter Brewis. The band just released its album Field Music (Measure), followed a three-year hiatus, and many bloggers are happily talking about the band's comeback. Indie Music Filter (www.indiemusicfilter.com) said, "I'm thinking that 2010 will be a lot of time spent listening to this band. Glad the Brewis brothers are back writing music together."
