Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On February 25, Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene continues to be the most blogged act of the moment, according to The Hype Machine. Swedish five-piece indie rock band Shout Out Louds has climbed into second place, and American duo White Hinterland holds onto third place.

Shout Out Louds released its third album, Work - the first since 2007's Our Ill Wills earned the band international attention - on February 23. Pop Dose (popdose.com) calls Work "another early leader in the race for year-end honors." Shout Out Louds is following up its album release with an extensive US/European tour, hitting major cities from March through July.

The New Pornographers is a Canadian/American indie rock supergroup (its members include solo artist Neko Case) that formed in Vancouver in 1997. The group is due to release its fifth album, Together, on May 4, and has made the first single from that album available for download. Kickin the Peanuts (kickinthepeanuts.com) calls "Your Hand (Together)" "an absolutely wonderful, rollicking power-pop jam."
