Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On Thursday, the most blogged artists of the moment according to music blog aggregator The Hype Machine were Swedish pop group jj, Texas band Spoon, and New York rock group Vampire Weekend. Other bands making the list include American indie duo Beach House and British music production duo Massive Attack, both of which have albums on the way.

Beach House, a dream-pop duo formed in Baltimore, USA, by France-born Victoria Legrand and Baltimore native Alex Scally, released its debut album in 2006 to acclaim from independent music media. The duo's third album, Teen Dream, is due out February 26 internationally.

Jonk Music (www.jonkmusic.com) writes of the album's lead track "Norway:" "The core elements of Beach House's sound - the drum machine, the thrift store keyboards - are still present; they're just a few ticks faster. ...'Norway' is radiant with the sunshiny 70s pop vibes. ... Climate change has come to Beach House, and the weather suits them beautifully."

British duo Massive Attack will release Heligoland on February 9. At RCRD LBL (rcrdlbl.com), editors say of the release, "In their twenty-plus years of existence, trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack have released only four albums, the most recent being 2003's 100th Window. Seven years later, they're finally turning the page with the guest-heavy Heligoland...." Cause=Time (www.causeequalstime.com) said the album release was "contributing to one of the most anticipated years in music."
