Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. On February 26, Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene continues to be the most blogged act of the moment, according to The Hype Machine, with Canadian/American indie supergroup The New Pornographers and Swedish rock band Shout Out Louds following close behind. Among bands breaking into the top ten are Club 8 and Efterklang.
Swedish indie pop duo Club 8 has grown in popularity with its six studio albums, most recently 2007's The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Dreaming. The band's next album, The People's Record, is due out in May, and the duo is getting mention with the release of "Western Hospitality" from that album. The New Gay (thenewgay.net) reviews, "The track has heavy Brazilian influences, catchy ‘Oh, Oh' backing vocals and a sound not unlike the last Camera Obscura record."
Efterklang is an indie pop-rock group from Copenhagen. The band's most recent album, Magic Chairs, was released on February 22, and bloggers are sharing tracks from that album, including first single "Modern Drift." Knox Road (www.knoxroad.com) says, " Magic Chairs works very well as an album as long as you're willing to sacrifice your inherent affinity for hooks and structure (assuming you have such affinities)."
