From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former Smiths frontman announced the news on his semi-official fan site True to You, posting all the dates of his autumn shows in Portugal, Italy, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany and England.
The tour will be Morrissey’s first since the release of his new album World Peace is None of Your Business last month.
But the singer has suffered bad health in the past few months, cancelling a string of US tour dates in June after contracting a respiratory infection.
Last year, Morrissey was diagnosed with double pneumonia and revealed he had been cautioned to retire from music.
The 55-year-old’s latest album was recently dropped from label Capitol-Harvest just three weeks before its release.
The singer became embroiled in a dispute with his former label over allegations it had failed to promote the album that led to the LP being removed from digital retailers.
Morrissey is currently looking for a label to issue the album, according to a post on True To You.
