From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Morrissey has given his public support of Russell Brand's call to abstain from voting in rebellion against the 'broken political system'.
The singer said he agreed with the comedian that "the most powerful vote you can give is No Vote".
In a 2,000 word tirade ranging from the monarchy to Sarah Palin, the singer said: “Thank you to Russell Brand for standing up and speaking out in recent weeks.
“Like Russell, I believe that the most powerful vote you can give is No Vote; for the days of Prime Ministers have gone, and it's time for a form of change that is far more meaningful than simply switching blue to red.”
In a typically impassioned rant that spared no member of the British establishment, Morrissey railed against David Cameron, Princess Anne, Pippa Middleton, PJ Harvey, Jamie Oliver, the Queen, David Beckham, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William.
His tirade started with a condemnation of all public figures who condone hunting, beginning with US TV presenter Melissa Bachman’s recent killing of a lion.
The former Smiths frontman and dedicated vegetarian said he was left “tearful” by the image of Bachman standing over a dead male lion in South Africa.
Writing on his fanzine True To You, the singer said: “The world struggles to protect the rhino and the elephant- both being shot out of existence, yet Bachman joins the murderous insanity of destruction without any fear of arrest.”
“Has Melissa Bachman considered hunting without a shotgun? We might then be impressed if she manages to bring a lion down.”
He also condemned Princess Anne, who spoke in favour of horsemeat consumption last week, lamenting the “crassness and international duncery of the British so-called ‘royal family’”.
Turning his ire on Pippa Middleton, the singer hit out at a Daily Mail article that showed her as she stood over dead birds from a “busy day’s shooting”.
“The sick face of modern Britain, Pippa Middleton will kill deer, boar, birds - any animal struggling to live, or that gets in her socialite way,” he said.
Continuing his attack, Morrissey targeted Prime Minister David Cameron, who he said “shoots stag whenever he feels a bit bored”.
“Animals have a natural instinct to survive - as do animals in abattoirs, but they cannot compete against the loaded hunting-guns of Pippa Middleton or David Cameron. It is by no means a fair game.”
Sparing no-one in his tirade, Morrissey also criticised “David 'rent-a-smile' Beckham; his wife - famous for having nothing to do; the dum dum dummies of the Katie Price set [and] the overweight Jamie 'Orrible, who tells us all how to eat correctly”.
In typical melancholic style, Morrissey ended with a bleak appraisal of modern Britain.
“At what point did the dis-United Kingdom become a cabbagehead nation? Where is the rich intellect of debate? Where is our Maya Angelou, our James Baldwin, our Allen Ginsberg, our Anthony Burgess, our political and social reformers?
“At what point did the shatterbrained scatterbrains take over - with all leading British politicians suddenly looking like extras from Brideshead Revisited?”
