From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The “Party in the USA” singer unveiled a number of new merch designs on Thursday (22 July), sharing images on social media.
Among the designs are a T-shirt that reads, “I [heart symbol] D***” (asterisks ours), and a tracksuit that reads: “Miley is cancelled”.
There are also black joggers emblazoned with the slogan “F*** Miley Cyrus”, and T-shirts reading: “Miley Cyrus Made Me Realize I Am Gay.”
“MILEY IS CANCELED!!!!” wrote the singer, alongside images of herself modelling the clothing.
“IDK what [her father, Billy Ray Cyrus] is gonna be more pissed about!” she added. “Me making a shirt that says ‘I <3 D***’ or crawling all over his truck in my @gucci heels!”
It’s not know why exactly Cyrus is using the term “cancelled”. She has previously been at the centre of a number of controversies, including one spurred by comments she made in 2017 about hip hop music.
The artist recently made headlines for voicing her support for Britney Spears at a recent performance, amid the “Toxic” singer-songwriter’s ongoing legal battle over her longstanding conservatorship.
Performing for the opening of Resorts World, Cyrus sang her hit “Party in the USA”, at one point alluding to Spears.
“The taxi man turned on the radio, he turned to me and said, ‘Free Britney, Free Britney!” she sang, as heard in videos captured of the gig.
