Michael Buble has been named the most popular holiday artist ever on Spotify as the festive countdown begins.

The Grammy-winning crooner has eleven tracks in the music streaming service’s Top 20 Christmas songs list this week and five in the Top 10.

The “Buble effect” began kicking in on 28 November and since then, the 39-year-old has enjoyed a 147 per cent spike in streams with the likes of “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”, “Jingle Bells” and “Cold December Night”.

Paul Lamere, director of developer platform for The Echo Nest at Spotify, has built a web app called Playlist Miner, which identifies the top tracks from the most popular public playlists on the service.

Spotify's top Christmas songs list has been compiled using this app, with "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" by Andy Williams and "White Christmas" by Bing Cosby all making appearances in the Top 20.
