The Philadelphia rapper was arrested twice earlier this year — for misdemeanour assault charges in March, and reckless divining in August — but both charges were dropped.
However, the arrests caused the court to review matters concerning the 30-year-old’s probation, Judge Genece E. Brinkley saying the incidents violated the probation ruling.
Mill — best known in the UK for the song "All Eyes on You” with Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown — was convicted of drug dealing and weapon possession in 2008, resulting in eight months in prison followed by a five year probation period.
Come 2012 and Mill was found to have violated his probation, having travelled out of the country without reporting to authorities. After another case of failing to report travel plans the following year, Mill was eventually served an addition three to six months in prison, serving five.
In December 2015, Mill was found to have violated his parole again for unapproved travel, being put under house arrest for 90 days and being sentenced to an additional six years of probation.
Various celebrities have since defended Mill, including Jay-Z who called the recent sentencing “unjust and heavy-handed”.
Kevin Hart and T.I. also posted on Instagram about the ruling, Hart writing: “Praying for my brother Meek Mill right now. God sometimes puts the toughest battles on his strongest soldiers.”
Regarding an appeal sentence, Mill’s defence attorney declined to comment but the rapper said: "You're goddamned right I am."
