From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On her Rebel Heart tour, the singer has continuously dressed in a wedding veil, brought a male fan on stage and sung "Material Girl" to them, all the while she berates them for not having an engagement ring.
However, on a Wednesday night show in Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena, one fan was ready for the sequence.
After being brought on stage by the 57-year-old, he presented her with an engagement, taking the singer back slightly but much to the audience's joy. Madonna quickly checked if the ring was 24-carat-gold before slipping it on.
Unfortunately for the fan, the pop songstress didn’t commit to the act, telling him (via BBC): “We won’t be getting married. But I’ve shouted your name out on stage and now you’re famous and I have a new ring. So it’s win-win.”
Madonna angered fans earlier on this tour by arriving late on stage in Manchester and then proceeding to call the audience “diva b***es”.
