The Rolling Stones have cancelled the first show of their imminent Australian tour after the death of Sir Mick Jagger's long-term partner L'Wren Scott.

The 49-year-old model and designer was reportedly found hanged at a New York apartment at around 10am local time (3pm GMT) yesterday.

The band had arrived in Australia at the start of the week and was due to play a concert in Perth tomorrow, but promoter Frontier Touring has issued a statement confirming that the gig will not go ahead.

It said: "Frontier Touring and Concerts West regret to announce that The Rolling Stones concert in Perth will not be going ahead as scheduled for Wednesday 19 March 2014.

"No further information is available at this time, ticket holders are asked to hold on to their tickets until a further update is available."

Speculation had quickly grown regarding the future of the tour after news broke about Scott, who had been dating the band's frontman Sir Mick since 2001.

The Stones are still due to play Sydney on 25 March, Melbourne on 28 March, Hanging Rock on 30 March and Brisbane on 2 April, as well as a stadium concert at the newly-developed Adelaide Oval this Saturday that reportedly cost the South Australia government $450,000 (£250,000) to secure.

Ticket-holders responded to the news from Frontier Touring with overwhelmingly supportive comments. One, Rachel Booth, wrote: "Thoughts go out to all involved. Surely nobody could expect them to stay and perform."

Meanwhile, tributes for Scott have continued to pour in as it emerged her British fashion company had been losing millions of pounds.

Her body was discovered yesterday morning at the property in Manhattan and it is understood that police do not suspect foul play.

Rumours that she and Sir Mick had stopped dating in the weeks before her death were angrily quashed by a spokesperson for the singer, who said: "He is completely shocked and devastated by the news."

Accounts filed with Companies House in October show Scott's British company, LS Fashion Ltd, was running at a loss of more than £3.5 million in 2012, up from more than £2.5 million the previous year.

The documents also show the firm owed more than a million pounds, despite having assets totalling a similar amount.

Scott, who was said to be around 6ft 4ins tall and towered at least half a foot over her boyfriend, became well-known in Britain after she started seeing Sir Mick.

She designed stage outfits for notable performances at Glastonbury Festival and Hyde Park in recent years.

The Stones' last concert was three days ago at the grand ballroom of Singapore's Marina Bay Sands, rounding off the Asian dates of their 14 On Fire tour.
