Singer Louis Tomlinson has been granted bail after he was arrested following an “altercation” with paparazzi.

The One Direction star was travelling home from Las Vegas with his girlfriend Eleanor Calder when the situation occurred.

Bail has been set at $20,000 (£16,000) with a court date scheduled for 29 March; according to police documents, Tomlinson was subjected to a citizen's arrest.

The singer's lawyer Martin Singer has claimed that photographers “provoked” Louis in the build-up to the incident.

He said: “The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis at the airport this morning. This is not the first or last time that a paparazzo has created an altercation with a celebrity.

“While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defence.”

Last year, the singer's mother Johannah Deakin passed away from leukaemia at the age of 42.
