Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.American VI: Ain't No Grave, the sixth and final installment in Johnny Cash's American album series, will be released internationally on February 22, on what would have been Cash's 78th birthday. As of February 8, "Ain't No Grave," the first single from that album, is available online.
Johnny Cash's American series began in 1994 with American Recordings, which won a 1995 Grammy Award. Later, between the completion of American IV: The Man Comes Around in 2002 and Cash's death in 2003, Cash and producer Rick Rubin recorded a number of songs, most of which were released in 2006 as American V: A Hundred Highways. American VI featured the final songs recorded during those years.
In addition to "Ain't No Grave," the album includes the previously unreleased song "I Corinthians: 15:55," which Cash wrote over the last three years of his life. Rounding out the recording are a series of covers, including Sheryl Crow's "Redemption Day," Kris Kristofferson's "For The Good Times," Bob Nolan's "Cool Water," and Ed McCurdy's "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream."
Born in 1932, Johnny Cash became one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, introducing the US, and then an international audience, to his blend of country, gospel, and rock and roll.
