Allen originally hit the top spot with the same song two weeks ago but was displaced by Calvin Harris’ "Under Control" in the chart rundown last Sunday.
This week, the “Hard Out Here” singer beat teen favourites One Direction’s “Story of My Life” by 6,000 copies, with Bastille’s “Of the Night” taking third place and “Under Control” slipping into fourth.
Gary Barlow’s comeback single “Let Me Go” has completed the top five after falling three places from number two.
Former X Factor contestants Rebecca Ferguson and James Arthur struggled with their new entries this week. Ferguson’s “I Hope” entered in 15th and Arthur entered at 19th with “Recovery”, after he made a public apology for a homophobic lyric on the X Factor results show last weekend.
Allen’s cover has been popular since department store John Lewis used it as the soundtrack to their Christmas television advert, “The Bear and the Hare”, in which a hare brings a hibernating bear a present after hearing he will sleep through Christmas.
In the albums chart, One Direction clung onto number one for a second week with Midnight Memories while “Bleeding Love” star Leona Lewis and Christmas With Love only just made the top 25.
Last night on ITV talent show The X Factor, contestant Luke Friend performed “Somewhere Only We Know” in a semi-final sing-off that saw Croydon boy band Rough Copy leave the competition.
Allen has been tipped to stay at the top for the Christmas number one in two weeks, but Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and The Pogues’ “Fairytale Of New York” have both climbed tens of places up the chart to hit 14th and 16th respectively.
