From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lil Nas X has clapped back after someone criticised his Grammys outfit for allegedly lacking “masculinity”.

Rapper Pastor Troy shared a photo of Lil Nas X at the Grammys on his Instagram account on Wednesday, suggesting that he would never win a trophy at the awards ceremony because he wouldn’t dress like the 20-year-old artist.

Lil Nas X attended the Grammys in a hot pink Versace outfit, complete with a cowboy hat, which landed him on many best dressed lists for the night.

“Welp, Guess I won’t be winning a GRAMMY...If this what I gotta wear. They love to push this s*** on Our Kids!!” Troy, 42, wrote next to the image of Lil Nas X.

He also mentioned seeing ”some punks kissing and laughing eating mozzarella sticks” during a recent outing at an Applebee’s restaurant.

“First Thing My 14 yr old Son said was, “F**** Applebee’s” And It Brought Joy to My Heart!! He sees it...their agenda to take the masculinity from Men, Black Men Especially,” Troy added.

Lil Nas X didn’t seem phased by the message. He retweeted a message containing two screenshots of Troy’s post, writing: “Damn i look good in that pic on god.”

His retort quickly went viral and has been liked more than 270,000 times.

On Instagram, several people criticised Troy’s post, including one user who wrote: ”You were never going to win a Grammy anyway so this was just hateful for no reason.”

“Y’all still homophobic in 2020?! What the f***? If you don’t care about gay people stop CARING ABOUT GAY PEOPLE,” another person commented.

Lil Nas X took home two Grammys on Sunday, in the Best Music Video and Best Duo/Group Performance.

He also gave a noticed performance during the awards ceremony, during which he paid a subtle tribute to Kobe Bryant.
