From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lil Nas X says he’s “not mad” at Kevin Hart for interrupting him while he was explaining his decision to come out as gay.

The 20-year-old rapper was asked about the incident while speaking to Hoodrich Radio.

“I’m not mad at Kevin Hart,” Lil Nas X says in an excerpt published by TMZ.

“... I don’t try to get into these situations because online I’m just here to be funny and laugh.

“I’m not trying to say anything because you say anything, your words get twisted, you have to say something about that, you have to say something about that... on and on.”

Earlier this month, a clip from HBO’s The Shop showed Lil Nas X being asked why he had decided to come out as gay in June 2019, at the height of his success.

“He said he was gay, so what?” Kevin Hart (who is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a car crash) interjects.

Lil Nas X then begins explaining: “It’s not being forced, it’s just knowing that growing up, I’m growing up to hate this s***. I’m not supposed to–”

“Hate what?” Hart asks.

“Homosexuality,” Lil Nas X replies. “Gay people.”

“Why?” Hart interjects again.

“Come on now,” the rapper says. “If you’re really from the hood, you know.”

Lil Nas X goes on to explain that coming out while being “at the top” professionally (which he has been thanks to the success of his hit “Old Town Road”), then “you know it’s for real”.
