From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lady Gaga has announced on Twitter that she can no longer perform at Brazil’s Rock in Rio music festival after being hospitalised.

Writing on the social media platform, the ‘Bad Romance’ singer said she was in ‘severe pain’ but was surrounded by ‘the very best doctors’.

“Brazil, I'm devastated that I'm not well enough to come to Rock In Rio,” Gaga wrote. “I would do anything for you but I have to take care of my body right now.

“I ask for your grace and understanding, and promise that I will come back and perform for you soon.”

Half an hour later, Gaga added: “I was taken to the hospital. It's not simply hip pain or wear and tear from tour, I'm in severe pain. I'm in good hands with the very best doctors.”

The singer recently pulled out of a concert in Montreal after getting ill after performing in the rain at New York City’s Citi Field. After cancelling stop — part of the Joanne World Tour — Gaga bought pizzas for everyone waiting outside her hotel.

Gaga has been consistently open about suffering from chronic pain in the past, discussing those struggles in the upcoming Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two. She recently revealed she suffers from fibromyalgia, a long term condition that causes pain all over the body.
