From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Kodak Black has been banned from a Los Angeles radio station after making lewd comments about the girlfriend of late rapper Nipsey Hussle.

Hussle, who was shot and killed last week in LA, had been dating actor Lauren London since 2013. The couple welcomed their first child together in 2016.

Following the news of his death, the hip hop and wider music and LA community rallied to offer messages of support and offers of help to The Game star.

However, Black – who was recently charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct in South Carolina after being accused of assaulting a teenage high school student – chose to post an unsavoury post on Instagram, where he suggested he would give London one year to grieve before pursuing her.

"She about to be out here single," he said. "I'll be the best man I can be for her. I'll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and s**t for him."

Justin Credible, a DJ from LA's Power 106 station, responded by pledging not to play Black's music: "We stand with the family of Nipsey Hussle and are appalled by the disrespectful and poor comments made by Kodak Black. With that, Power 106 will not support Kodak Black's music."

Fellow rappers TI and The Game also called out the 21-year-old for his comments. TI posted an Instagram video telling him to "fix that s**t quickly, expeditously," adding: "If I see you, I'ma say it to your face. You outta pocket, n***a. Get your motherf***ing self together."

The Game accused Black of disrespecting Hussle's name, legacy and family, warning him to keep Hussle and London's names "out your f***ing mouth".

"This new generation, y'all f***ed up in the head," he said.

Radio host Big Boy from 92.3 also called the rapper out in a wider comment about what he perceived as a culture of disrespect in hip hop.

In a lengthy post on Instagram where he shared a photo of Hussle and London together at the Grammys, he wrote: "Nipsey's honour can't be disrespected like this. We must put a shield around [Lauren London] and his ENTIRE family. We can't allow these things to happen. Nipsey wouldn't We look the other way and forgive too easily."

Black responded by apologising to London "if I disrespected you... in any shape or form". However he added: "Even though I didn't... Yeah, I say what I said."

Last week, prime suspect Eric Holder, 29. was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He pled not guilty and has been placed in custody on $5m (£3.9m) bail.
