Your support makes all the difference.Top Dawg Entertainment boss Anthony Tiffith has sent fans into a frenzy after sharing a post announcing the record label would be releasing new music by one of its artists.
In a tweet, the label executive wrote “THE WAIT IS OVER #TDE” and shared a brief clip showing a retro loading bar and the date, 7 May 2021.
Fans immediately began speculating over which artist on TDE’s roster would be dropping new material, with most hoping for either Kendrick Lamar or SZA.
Two weeks ago, Lamar’s engineer MixedByAli hinted that the rapper “might” be sharing new music this year, while just three days ago, LeBron James tweeted: “Man I miss @kendricklamar! In dying need of his gifts/presence right now.”
Last week marked four years since Kendrick Lamar released his last solo album, DAMN. In 2018, he oversaw and contributed to songs on the official soundtrack for Marvel’s 2018 film, Black Panther.
Some fans suspected that James’s post was actually the basketball star teasing the arrival of new music.
Around the time of his tweet, one Twitter user observed: “The last time [James] did this Kendrick dropped Untitled Unmastered. I appreciate what LeBron is doing for the people.”
Given Lamar was due to headline Glastonbury this year, it seems reasonable to believe he might have timed a new album to be released in summer.
However, SZA’s fans are also hoping she has new music on the way.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan in January, she said that the long-awaited follow-up to her 2017 album Ctrl would be out this year.
“This album is going to be the s*** that made me feel something in my (heart and gut),” she said.
“That’s what’s going to go on the album. I’m making all different types of s*** every day from different places in my spirit.”
