Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Suede and Frank Turner have been confirmed to headline this summer's Kendal Calling festival alongside a host of popular acts including Miles Kane, Razorlight and Tom Odell.

Legendary hip hop trio De La Soul and English alt-rock band Happy Mondays also feature on the initial line-up, with Clean Bandit, Newton Faulkner and rising star Ella Eyre all set to appear.

Nineties favourites Reel Big Fish are set to play, along with indie group Athlete, DJ Mr Scruff, Dub Pistols, Saint Raymond and many more.

Kendal Calling's theme has been announced as 'Beyond the Stars' in an effort to rival Bestival for colour and craziness.

Eight stages run at the event, which offers music, art, poetry, comedy, a real ale festival and a wide range of food stalls.

There will be a DJ set from 2ManyDJs, with Craig Charles, Zane Lowe and dance duo Bondax also contributing to the party atmosphere.

Kendal Calling is now in its ninth year after being named Best Medium-Sized Festival at the latest UK Festival Awards.

Kendal Calling takes place 1-3 August 2014 at Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District. Tickets cost £119, with ages 11-15 paying £60 and under-10s going free.
