The Rolling Stones member Keith Richards has apologised to Mick Jagger for suggesting he should get a vasectomy.

The guitarist described his bandmate as “a randy old bastard” in an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, adding: “It’s time for the snip – you can’t be a father at that age. Those poor kids.”

Richards subsequently apologised to Jagger, tweeting: “I deeply regret the comments I made about Mick in the WSJ which were completely out of line. I have of course apologised to him in person.”

Jagger became a father for the eighth time in December 2016, at the age of 73.

Richards commented on their working relationship, the tensions of which he documented in 2010 memoir Life, stating they both “live off this fire between us.”

“It’s been up and downhill, but if I’m talking about The Rolling Stones, there ain’t a frontman like Jagger. Don’t matter how many bones you want to pick out of him, he’s amazing to work with,” he said.

The band, which formed in 1962, recently announced their first UK live shows since they headlined Glastonbury in 2013. The concerts are set to begin this May.
