Keith Richards has confirmed he has completed his first solo album in 22 years.

The Rolling Stones guitarist said he has finished the record and is thinking of releasing it next June.

The unnamed album will be his first in 22 years since 1992’s Main Offender.

The 70-year-old told the Associated Press: “I have a solo record finished, but I don’t want to put it out while the Stones are working, so I’m thinking next June.”

He added that he spent two years working on the album with Grammy Award-winning producer Steve Jordan.

“We had no rush. I think we spent a couple of years. Steve [Jordan] and I are always working somewhere else, but every month or two we'd come down here and do a couple a day and knock off a couple of tracks,” he said.

“Nearly every record I've made is ... 'You've got another five days,' but this one we're taking our time.”

The Rolling Stones have been touring on and off since 2012 to mark the band’s 50th anniversary, and made their Glastonbury debut last year.

Richards admitted that the band could “potentially tour for most of 2015”.

Aside from his solo album and world tour, Richards has recently published a children’s book inspired by his grandfather, with illustrations from his artist daughter Theodora.
