From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

She insisted she had not been dropped by Warner Music but had merely come to the end of her three-album agreement.
In messages posted online she hit back at suggestions her label had dumped her because of falling sales and expensive "diva demands".
The 32-year-old Welsh singer signed a £5.8 million contract with Warner in 2008, which was said to be the biggest classical recording deal in history.
A report today claimed executives chose not to renew her contract partly as a result of the costs of styling, hair and make-up during promotional and live events.
But Jenkins, currently on tour in Japan, said: "I can confirm that I'm moving record label as I've reached the end of my three album deal with Warners.
"I'm super excited about where I'm going next but am currently sworn to secrecy."
Writing on Twitter, she went on: "This is a happy time for me personally and as an artist so do not be concerned by nonsense reports in the press.
Jenkins said she was "getting sick of all the hatred and venom", adding: "It's totally unnecessary."
And she later mocked: "Well, it's been a long day of rehearsals here in Japan. Time to take my £1,500 worth of make up and my diva demands to bed."
Her most recent album, This Is Christmas, out last year, peaked at number 26 in the UK chart, while her previous release for the label, Daydream, reached number six.
She competed on the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing With The Stars, last year as part of a plan to break America.
